The Mary Rose was named after Mary Tudor, the sister of King Henry VIII of England. It was a warship built during Henry VIII's reign in the early 16th century. The ship was named in honor of the king's sister and was one of the first ships in the English navy to carry both the traditional English flag (with a red rose) and the flag of St. George.
