6 Read the information and check your answers from Exercise 5. Higher temperatures are changing our environment. The Polar ice caps are melting and causing sea levels to rise. This produces floods in coastal areas and also affects ecosystems in the world's oceans and seas. It can cause extreme weather conditions, too - violent storms and hurricanes, for example. And it doesn't stop there. The higher temperatures make water evaporate from the land more quickly. This causes water loss and can turn good land into deserts. This desertification makes land more difficult to farm, and, of course, affects wildlife.​
